What's it worth? '78 or '79 T-40

Hi there,

I am new to the forum so I thought I'd chime in now before I am officially part of the club (I am buying my first T-40 tomorrow).

I have the opportunity to buy either a '78 or '79 (will have to check the serial), and the seller wants $300. It looks to be in good shape, with some tarnish on the metal and some rusty screws, but otherwise fine. Is this a good deal or should I try and haggle a bit? Comes with a HSC.



I'd really appreciate some of your opinions.

My best advice is to only pay what you are comfortable paying. If it is a six-digit serial number with the headstock pin stripe surrounding the truss rod cover it is very early and very rare.

Check ebay and see what similar items are going for, remember to consider shipping as well. I was a t-60 owner when I checked a pawn shop back home. They had only one Peavey, a T-40, and I had just bought another bass, so I really didn't consider buying it, until the clerk said he could get it for me for $189. I jumped on it. Those things happen only occasionally, so as someone else has said, if you feel good about the guitar and the price, go for it.
