T-45 with 2nd pu (T-2000) wHSC
Howdy! So I carried around a T-40 pickup (eBay $75) for two years in hopes of doing a three pickup t-40 Black Beauty.
I have always liked the t-40 but i felt they should have put that neck pu in the "p" position. When I saw a TB ad for a black t-45 for $200 i jumped at it excited that an L-2000 emulation would soon be mine! I was told the fretjob was bad, which of course it was I decided that buying a replacement t-45 neck would be cheaper than a re-fret and as you can see in the second pic there is that dreaded Peavey neck split high on the fretboard. so I filled all the gaps with wood glue and wet sanded the front and back. the controls are vvtt and both pu's are wired in HB mode. the rout i made for the second pu is smooth but if you look at the picture below you can see i only had 4 pickup ring screws, these pu rings are solid but i often see them broken so i would advise getting them in place.
i was going to do all kinds of switching and blending of coils in this thing but I don't play fretless, I have to pay off this L-2000e I just bought and I can't wait around to find a replacement neck.
I didn't clean up the bass before taking pictures because it is so hard to see dings on a clean black bass. this thing has dings whacks and rash and when i got it there was no truss rod cover or Peavey knobs and i had to replace one tuner ($15). I bought a $35 Peavey chainsaw case thinking I would own this bass forever it has 4 latches and both internal hinge support rods are intact. BUT the foam that was inside had lost its integrity so i scooped it out i am sure some spray adhesive and new foam from the fabric shop will do the trick.
Soooo
it measures 1-3/4" at the neck.
oh yeah i forgot to add that it's awesome!!
