| I recently bought a T40 off craigslist and met the guy remotely so I was unable to test it... I only paid $250 so it's all good, but I just figured out the neck pickup isn't working. I popped the 'guard off and everything looks to be soldered in correctly... Is there a certain part that is notorious for going bad, or anything I can test, or... ? edit -- Oh yeah, and the knobs are all slightly oxidized... Any recommendations for how to clean em up?

| You could always check the pickup switch to see if it has gone bad. One way I've tested the pickups without everything put together is by touching the tip of an instrument cable that is plugged into your amp to the two outer rows of blades on the pickup switch, one at a time. If you get a sound when you tap on the pickup using this method, you get a sound, then your pickup isn't hosed. | |

| Cool, it makes noise when I touch both pickups, so I'll try replacing the switch...
Any good idears for cleaning up the rust on the knobs and such? | |

| I second that, Dude. A new switch solved my problems. As for rust, try some lighter fluid and a rag, that should get some of it off. | |

| Do you guys know where to get a new switch? The one I ordered from Warmoth was the wrong size (and the only 3-way switch they carry). My poor T-40 has been sitting with it's guts out for 2 weeks now | |

| guitarpartsresource has them. Just one question though, does yours have the earlier mini switches, or the later big, round tipped ones? If they're the later, then you might have to get a bigger washer for any mini switch that you try to use. | |

| Mine has the big round tipped ones... The one I got from warmoth was a mini switch that is waaaay too small to fit. | |

| You could always try stacking the washers as in putting the one from the original switch under the one for the new switch and tightening the nut down so that it, in effect, is one big washer. | |
