Chip Todd himself clips the red wires. I've not played a T-40 with the wires clipped but I have played several blade pickup equipped guitars that Chip clipped the red wires. To my ear they were warmer than an unclipped blade pickup.

We used to have diagrams for a couple mods on the original T-60 forum. I know I have hard copies in boxes somewhere. I should have soft copies on my computer. I'm away from it at the moment but I'll check and post what I find.

I clip the red wires out of laziness. The more cautious way is to unsolder the wires at the tone pots and put tape on the exposed wire. The output of guitar or bass pickups is so low, that even masking tape is sufficient.
