I bought my T-40 about a year ago from Ebay, it came with all of the original case candy and looked like it may have been played gently once or twice. The finish was immaculate with no belt rash or other kinds of wear and even had the protective film on the pickguard!
I've been playing a Gibson Thunderbird IV pretty religiously for the last 5 years, sometimes subbing in my Gibson Grabber. I've been dedicated to both, quite honestly. Recently upgraded my rig to a Mesa/Boogie 400+ Bass tube head with a 1000W Mesa powerhouse cab, recently had the T-40 professionally set-up and decided to test her out with the new rig. WOW!
Don't get me wrong, the Thunderbird and Grabber are fantastic basses, but the versatility of the T-40 is beyond compare. It has already solved a lot of the tone issues I'd been having with the T-Bird and Grabber and even my old, neglected Fender Jazz Bass. The T-Bird would often sound too boomy or muddy, the Grabber could have an annoying bright edge from time to time. With the T-40 it seems like I get the same kind of low-end punch as I did with the T-Bird but when I'm mixing low notes with high notes, everything comes out crystal clear! If I'm not happy with the sound, all it takes is a flick of one of the switches and it's fixed!
I'm really glad I made this purchase. I had owned a T-60 guitar when I was in high school and kind of wish I still had it to pair up with the T-40. This is my first post here, so hello to everyone! I'll post pictures of my T-40 as well as her maiden voyage as my gigging bass. This is just the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
