Calling all pick users for some help!

Im still a noob when it comes to basses but when I use my pick as for example if i pluck my E string open it makes a weird slight buzzing sound that changes in sound if i let it ring out all the way. With a finger you can hear it too but only if you play hard. Any idea's on the problem? It also buzzes quite bad when playing like punk rock with a pick. Do i need to raise my strings up so i can play more aggressively? Ive taken it to 2 techs but was not given the greatest of service and nether fixed the problem. Thanks

Sounds like guitar center did a crap job setting up your bass. Go somewhere else
