On the bright side... At least it isn't an extremely rare PAF neck with the headstock striping going around the truss rod cover.

I considered the collectability of the bass before I did this, and considering I saved it from a trash heap, and I can get a replacement neck for less than $100 from eBay, I really didn't think I was doing any harm. It's an early t40, but it also has a later body that has been drilled and routed to make it lighter, as well as a non stock refinish. In my opinion, I enhanced the bass, not detracted from it.

So now I have a t40 with 5 strings and a killer sunburst that weighs less than 10 pounds, and still sounds great.

Yep, in my ledger that's an improvement

You did a great job on it.

Chip started a 5-string T-40 in the early 2000s but for whatever reason the requestor never received it. Chip finished it for a local Austin TX musician. He called it the T-50. I've got a picture of it but no way to post here.

I'd like to make a new headstock decal,  but that's difficult to get right.   I've tried it before

I'd love to see it,  do you mind emailing it to me?  Tubaandbass@yahoo.com

I know what you mean. I need to get a T-63 decal made for my triple pickup T-60 project that has been stalled for a few years. Mad

I'll get the pic to you ASAP.
