T-40 Pickup Switch Empty
PostSubject: T-40 Pickup Switch   T-40 Pickup Switch I_icon_minitimeFri Jul 29, 2011 7:13 pm

Hey all, picked up a T-40 that had been chilling in a garage for about 20 years at least the other day....... it needs to strings to put it nicely, ha but anyways everything works awesome, bass is in good condition except for some sticker marks on the back, and the pickup switch only works in the up and down position, i get no sound at all for the middle position. I believe mine is a '78, and any info on how to fix this would be appreciated, although i have no electronics experience whatsoever :/

Hi.

Just popped in here and spotted this.

The electronics on a T-40 are far from standard.
If you have any experience of soldering, you may wish
to have a go but you would have to be careful in what you.

This is the earlier type and would include 78.

Straight forward, three wires.

The switches are easily available but is may not only be that.
Could be a dry joint - broken cap connection (I've had that before)
or several other things, including a dead pick-up.

Take clear images before you start, so you can double check later.

Cheers. Smile

You may have a bad pick up or pot.

You'd need to pull it apart and know how to use a volt/ohm meter to check it.

The winding resistance should be 5K ohms for each coil and there are 4 coils total.

Mine had a bad bridge pick up but luckily it was fixable.

When I switched the phase to down, I would lose everything.

I pulled the pickup apart and found an open connection and soldered it.

Working great now.
