Newbie

Hi everyone!!
I am new to the forum and have always loved old Peavey gear. I own a Peavey Heritage guitar amp and I am just starting to go back to playing bass. I have always wanted a nice T-40 and my local music shop has a natural one for $350. I am going to look at it on friday. Anyway thanks for having me.

You've got a Heritage and mentioned going back to playing bass. Did you step into the light and become a guitarist?

Don't throw anything at me folks, you know I'm just a guitarist that owns a T-40 to mess around with.

My father plays both guitar and bass and that is how I got into playing both. I am also a drummer. I was trying to get better at playing guitar, but I realize that I am a lot better bass player than guitarist. I am excited to look at the T 40. My friend said that it is natural. The natural and sunburst are my favorite colors. He said he also has a Foundation bass from the 80's in white. I will also check that out. I will need a nice bass amp. I just have a small practice amp right now.

I'm with you on needing a bigger amp. I just got a Microbass right now. Maybe when I learn to play my T-40 like a bass instead of a four string guitar I'll get something bigger. I'm digging those old Foundations and Furys myself.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at a Hartke yesterday that was 250 watts and it had a nice sound to it. I played it with a Peavey Grind bass. I had to postpone my trip to see the T-40 till Tuesday. I hope it does not sell before then, if it does I will look at other options.

I'm still a hack on the bass, but the other vintage Peavey's that I've test driven have all impressed me. I find I prefer the more narrow neck on some of the other models, but my T-40 is staying with me.

Well, I went to look at the T-40 and it is nice!! Hard case and all for $350!! Not the original case, but an nice tkl. Natural with a maple neck and in good shape. Looks like an early eighties. He said he has had it for a long time and I hope he keeps it for another week to my next paycheck so I can grab it. He also had a Foundation bass in white with a maple neck. That was also in great shape. Still need to find a nice bass amp. BTW, what is the care on the body of the T-40? Do you use lemon oil or anything like that on them?

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Since it's been there a while there's a good chance it will still be there when you get paid.

Good question on the body care. I personally do not use anything at all. I just wipe my gear down with a soft cloth after use. Surely the rest of the gang will have some good suggestions for you.

I was asking about the care because it felt like it did not have a gloss on it?
I was not sure if that is normal for the natural ones? The body is in great shape, maybe the former owner just sanded the gloss off? BTW, I found an early eighties Fury bass with the single pickup at Daddys Junky Music. It is natural with a rosewood neck and a black pickguard. It is $139.99. Not bad for a Made in USA bass.

My T-40 has a semi gloss to the finish. My 'burst T-60 has a semi gloss. My three natural T-60s do not have any gloss at all. I don't think any of the other natural T's that I've seen and played over the years had a gloss at all.

Yo drob! did you end up buying the T40? If not I got a Black/Maple for sale. I know not your color of choice but just thought id throw that out there.

pretty sweet. Thanks. I spent a lot of time and money revamping all the T-40's i got. They are in great shape and all with original and NICE parts. Good luck with that ash one you got your eye. These basses are pretty sweet.

Greetings, fellow Peavesters. Looks like this topic might have died a few months ago but I just found this site and I have a minty T40 sunburst for sale. It doesn't even have any belt-scratches on it, it's so cherry. Let me know if you're interested.

Hope you get that T-40. The naturals had urethane on them, but none were made, on purpose, with gloss. The naturals can be cleaned with a damp rag or even 409. HOwever, don't use a wax that dries off to white powder, as it's hard to get the powder out of the pores. That's the only time I used 409 on customer's T-40s & 60s.

I don't think anybody makes better amps than Peave, and I have one or two. But, when I have to take my basslet out of the house, I use my Mark Bass F1 amp, (500 watt, 4.6 lbs), and 31 lb. 400 watt speaker.
