Hi everybody , I am a T-40 enthusiast ( and also owner of a early '80 Peavey Foundation bass ) and I read about the forum just few minutes ago , and quickly registered

I am the proud owner of a T-40 , serial number 01763916 , it should be a '84 one I guess ...

I guess I'm probablty the "far away" member from the others ... as I'm from Italy ...

Great idea this forum !!

Dario

Italy!!! Hearty welcome!!! I'm in the Air Force and would love to get stationed in Italy in the future...it's one of the destinations high on my list. The T-40 is a great bass. What type of music do you play?

I'm playin' mainly hard rock of the '70/'80s , we're a semi-pro band ( classic 4-piece ... ) gigging north west of Italy ( ehr.... the less attractive area I think ... but there's a large military airport not far from my place , an airport called Cameri ... very UNATTRACTIVE surroundings ... ) , you know , touring pubs and roadhouses where such a kind of music is still enjoyed

And the T-40 is simply wonderful , especially when you have to switch from Aerosmith to Iron Maiden back to Deep Purple or Van Halen , always with the same instrument ...

I have some far more expensive or "attractive" instruments but , man , it's so true what people they all stress on all forums , once you grabbed one of these old Peavey's , they turn out that they're really "best of the breed" ...

I'll try to do my best in supprting and contributing to the forums , in the next days I'll post pictuers of my two Peavey's ...

Oldest production models. The 00000000 models are pre-production.

There are 6-digit serial numbers out there Rick. Chip hasn't mentioned where they fall in different serial number sequences. The only ones he's documented for us so far are:

1. CT-1, CT-2, CT-3 - the three prototypes built on his carport
2. Guitar Dept. 1 through Guitar Dept. 5 or 6 (built in 1976)
3. 0000000.0 through 00000000, 000000.0.0 and 00000.0.0.0 (sales rep samples - late 1976 or early 1977).
4. undisciplined zero numbered ones with various single digit numbers included in the zeros (built for Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Neal Diamond, Billy Gibbons, etc. - 1977)
4. 8M's (1978)
5. 00245XXX (the first true production T-60; presented to Mississippi Music in 1978)
6. 8-digits

Ah nice! I'm SO glad someone made a T-40 forum! This is going to be awesome. It seems I have '79 model! Pretty cool that I can say I have a real vintage guitar. Still, that vintage-ness wouldn't mean a thing if the T-40 wasn't such an awesome bass.

Hi guys, glad to see this place exists! I have a T-40 (SN 01184703), that was given to me by a friend about 9 years ago. I never really gave it a second thought as it was always just the bass I had, but I'd be curious to know how to find any info about it.

I must admit, I'm a bit confused by the serial numbers and dates listed above -- is there a simple way for me to figure the date of my bass from my serial number?

Cheers guys!
Pete

There are serial number lists floating around, but Peavey can give you the ship year if you visit their forum. I've seen conflicts between some of the lists and the official word from Peavey.
