Hi All!
New to the forum, and first post. Just got a beautiful T-40 Natural. Best looking one I have seen. I will post pics later after I get it all cleaned up, polished, restrung, and intonated. Heres my question:
Looking at the serial 00508935, it looks like a 1980, but what do all the other numbers indicate? Anyone?

Ok, as promised, heres the pics:

Welcome to the show and congrats on a fine looking T-40!

Unlike a lot of manufacturers there are no hidden codes in the Peavey serial numbers. The first four specify the year of production. Yours falls in the accepted range of 1980 numbers. I'm guessing the final four specify the number within the year's production numbers.

You can get an approximation, by iteration, of the the year by the leading numbers, but the last 5 have no rhyme or reason attached to them. I'm pretty sure that numbers are attached to reason, by now, but the program that handed out serial numbers through the end of the T-40 era, had no meaning attached to that number. This bass is beautiful, no matter when it was made.

Lovely body grain and amazing flame on that neck. Quite a stunning bass.

Yeah I thought so too. I was actually surprised that a 30 year old bass would be in such great shape. Not a scratch on it. I figure that it was stored in the case for more than 20 of those years. But then again, those basses are pretty tough! I took it to practice yesterday, and itdoes perform also. I have alot of bass guitars that I spent waay more on than the T-40 that dont even compare with its tone and playability. I like it!
