T-40 needs some work Empty
PostSubject: T-40 needs some work   T-40 needs some work I_icon_minitimeThu Sep 09, 2010 11:38 am

So...I just picked up a T-40 at my local guitar center for $200. it's decent condition however the electronics are in terrible shape and so are the screw holes for the pickguard. the electronics i can fix myself, in fact i ordered some new caps and new switches for it. it looks like somebody tried to mod the electronics but failed epically. the PU selector switch was changed to an on/off/on and the base of the switch was too big to fit into the PU selector spot so it was moved to the bridge volume pot spot. 2 of the caps are missing and several resistors were thrown in...and i do believe the pickups aren't oriented correctly. the bridge pickup is mounted so that the leads are coming from the Northern part of the pickup, so farther away from the control cavity. the neck pickup is mounted with the leads coming from the southern part of the pickup, or the part nearest to the cavity. im sure one of them is mounted wrong and im curious onto which one it is. the screws holes for the pickguard are almost all stripped out and it'd make me happy if somebody could give me a some advice onto how to fix them.

any help will be appreciated Smile

other than those problems its a great bass. i love the color. its a very deep semi transparent red with a maple fingerboard. beautifully made bass.

also,
when the pickups are in single coil mode which coils are being solo'd? (the coil on the bridge PU closed to the bridge or farther away, vise versa)

Hi.
Firstly, screw holes.
A very easy thing to do, something passed on to me some time ago
and it works very well.
Cut the nozzle of a super glue tube so not not much comes out.
Gently drip some of the glue into the hole and leave it for a day.
It bonds onto the walls of the hole and give the screw thread something
to bite into. Smile

When you have your electric back to stock, the phase switch acts as a
coil selector. This is only when the back pup is selected.
The difference it subtle but it can be heard.

Pics when it is all fixed up??

Cheers. Smile
