Hello All
I was just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with the Vypyr amps. I bought my son one of the little 15 watters a while back, and when I go over there I end up having to mess around with it myself. Seems you can sound like everyone from Buck Owens to AC/DC on the thing. I just don't know if the bigger ones are worth the money or not, and would like someone elses input. I don't claim to know alot about amps or stomp boxes, I just never did like the idea of buying an amp and different boxes to get the sounds I want. Anyone got an opinion of them? It seems like a pretty tough little amp. Thanks, Glenn

Glenn, I have been watching the Vypyr amps since they first came out. The initial batch had a lot of problems with the software. Lots of folks reported the amps freezing up or not producing any sound at all. The key thing to remember is to unplug the instrument cable from the amp before you turn it on. Seems that fixed most of the freezing or eternal light show problems.

That being said, I am in the market for the 30 watt version myself. I have quite a few pedals (three separate pedal boards) and I think it has gotten a bit out of hand. I can duplicate all of my pedals with the Vypyr, although I can't layer as much stuff with it.

I've been using the same Bandit since the mid 80s and added another Bandit of the same vintage a couple years back. I love the solid state sound on my Bandits, but I have a need for different sounds from time to time. Being a long time Peavey guy there was no way I was going Line 6 or any other brand.

As soon as I can scrape the money together Pete will be selling me a Vypyr 30 and Sanpera I controller.

Peavey has a separate Vypyr forum in their amp forum. Check it out, there is some pretty good info in there.

Tony,
Thanks for the info. I'll check that forum. I've been out of the loop for close to twenty years and was just amazed at how far things had come, like the Vypyr. If I get one it will probably be a 30 watter.
I went by Petes today. Played a nice jazz bass through a Peavey bass amp. I loved the bass and the amp. The jazz is probably my dream bass.
I got to thinking about a Peavey Falcon I had back in 90. Had it about 2 weeks and then the transmission went out and had to sell the guitar to get it fixed. Had it in lay away for 6 months and got to enjoy it for two weeks! Oh well, such is life.
My brother had one of those t60s back in 81 or 82. It was a fine guitar. He took it to Lakenheath with him and swapped it off. Says he wishes he had it back sometimes. Well, I don't know where you get all your info but I really appreciate it. I'm gonna check that sight out. Thanks once again, Glenn.

No problem at all Glenn. I spend way too much time on a few forums and am happy to pass along anything useful that I learn.

Lakenheath. Man, it's been 20 years since I was last there. They were in the middle of switching from FB-111ss to F-15s on my last visit. I was stationed at Alconbury and used to drive all the way to Lakenheath because they had a bigger commissary. I'd love to make it back to the UK for a visit. I was probably my favorite assignment of my whole career. And that's even counting my four years in Hawaii.
