The blade pickups were introduced into production around '81-82 on. Higher gain, more growl...that's what I've experienced. Welcome to the world of the T-40, my friend. Very Happy

Hey GeeBee,

I'm pretty well versed on Rickenbackers. I had been a staunch Rick guy, and still am...I love their products, but....for basses, the T-40 can capture the Rick tone like no other.

Rickenbacker guitars, however, are completely different animals. I can usually spot a Rick guitar jangle/bright/poppy/clear sound anywhere. I'm actually GASing for a 660.

Back on topic, the T-40, to me, having owned a Rick 4001 and three 4003 basses, is the closest you can get to a Rick growl/bright/aggressive tone out of any bass out there today. Especially with the blade pickups.

That's good to know. I think I stumbled upon the T-40 after Googling "Rickenbacker bass sound on the cheap" Laughing

The "blade" was introduced in the later '80's models, correct? The majority I've seen seem to have the blade pickups. Higher gain, more growl? Sounds right up my alley.

Good luck on getting a 660. I've got a 360 in Montezuma Brown (kind of like tobacco-burst if you're not familiar) and I love it. Rickenbacker are great. I didn't realize the prices had gone up so much. High demand, I guess

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum!!!

Recently T-40's have been scarce on eBay. Seems to come and go in waves, we're in a lull right now. Be patient. A good one will show up for you to get.

You won't be disappointed with a T-40, that I promise you!!! What type of music do you play??

Scott

Thanks for the welcome, Scott.

What type of music do I play? Depends on the guitar, usually--if it's my Rickenbacker, I'm most likely playing rock/pop/jangly/psych stuff. Metal on my Flying V. Not that I'm particularly good at any genre Laughing

I want a T-40 for its versatility (not to mention ability to approximate a Ric). Sounds like the perfect bass, and at the right price.

Now, I've just got to find one.

Hi Everyone,

Great forum you've got here. I recently discovered the T-40 while doing research to try to find the best bass for me (I'm primarily a guitarist).

I'm intent on purchasing a T-40, and have been scouring eBay and Craigslist and hope to find one sooner rather than later. But on the off-chance that a member here is thinking about parting with their T-40, and it's in good condition, I'd like to make an offer.

Thanks!
Joe
