My T40

The pin striping was done by my cousin who was pin striping cars for money at the time he did this. It was done in 1979 (about 6 months after I bought my "precious" T-40). I was 16 and he was 15 (he worked for his father/my uncle who has a business fixng up/making custom cars).

The "Rick" is a dead on copy of my signature - even still to this day. My cousin got lots of business painting guitars after others saw this work.

As you can see in the large picture - she's had a lot of work "On the Road." I don't play out with her anymore because there is a serious crack in the headstock. Some day I may try to find another identicle T-40 and cannibalize the two for the best parts to make a more pristine single one. I would like to then just put it in a glass case and hang it on the wall.

For now she sits in an original gold felt lined Peavey Hard Shell case that she was originally sold in.

Ah yes. the "parallel" switch.

Well you see the both of the original switches failed on me. Did I already say she's seen a lot of road use? Anyways when I went to find an ON-ON-ON DPDT switch for the PU selector - well I just couldn't at the time (sometime around 1986/1987 when I was living in West Germany).

So I had to improvise. I used a standard ON-OFF-ON DPDT switch for the PU selector and an additional ON/OFF DPST switch for switching the pickups in parallel or not.

I replaced the "phase" switch with an easy to find ON-ON DPDT switch when it failed sometime later. I get the same flexibility the original T40 gave you with the switches.

It does "tarnish" the bass a little but I'm never gonna sell it. Who wants a bass with "Rick" painted on it? Besides it has such tremendous sentimental value to me that I will never sell it.
