| Hello all, I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself and my T-40. my name is Adam, I've been playing bass for seven years and guitar for ten. At school i play in a band called Shining TV Screen (http://www.myspace.com/shiningtvscreen). We've been together for about a year and we're having fun making music and playing around our university. At home I play in a 60's/70's cover band with people my parents' age,. We play out a couple of times a month which has allowed me to finance numerous upgrades in my rig, including buying my beloved T-40. Meet my T-40: She's a 1982 and something of a frankenstein. the previous owner installed two coil taps as well as varitones that don't work at the moment. i bought it about six months ago as a replacement for my Dean Sledgehammer because I was looking for a fuller sound and had heard good things about T-40s. I ended up loving the bass and I play out with it almost exclusively. I'm most proud of her on the song "Witches," which you can hear on our myspace (above). I look forward to meeting everyone on here! | |

| Witches had a nice fat sound. What settings did you use? That's a sweet bass. I've seen it here in the modified section I think. | |

YEAH! I just looked over there and saw it posted by the guy I bought it from, which is kind of weird. As far as settings, I had both pickups going volume and tone all the way up. I recorded it through a SWR 350x and an Avatar 2x12. I love the way it sounds with the lower mids boosted 5-7 dB and the aural enhancer at about 2 O'cock.

| I'm glad to see (and hear) my former babies being loved.
How do the varitones not work? Are they just disconnected or are they just not changing the sound any?

| I'm not really sure what the deal with the Varitones is because I haven't popped it open to look at the wiring. They don't make any change in the sound though. I'd like to figure out how to get them working, though. Any suggestions? | |

Hmmm. Thw way I wired them up is I wired them in place of the tone caps that were connected to the first lug on both tone pots. If the tone controls are working, then the problem lies in the switch. If the tone controls aren't working, it could just be a loose wire somewhere. I believe the wiring schematic that I used is in the other thread if you want to use it as a reference.
