Hi all you t-40 enthusiasts!

Lately i got a 1983 T-40 and i have some trouble with it's wiring. I now found this forum and hope anyone can help me.

I had a lot of basses in the last 15 to 20 years (low end and pretty much so called "high end" ones) and i must say this t-40 is a "keeper" to me. I like it VERY much. But, i' afraid, mine has some "inconsistencies" to work on.

The wiring on mine is not genuine (from the web i got the original peavey wiring ...

I picked up a used T-40. Problems:

* Phase switch was defective. I bypassed and removed this without issue.

* Neck pickup will not work. Via process of elimination I narrowed it down to the TONE pot. I'm not sure if it's the pot itself or the connection between it and the volume pot. The .022 OHM resistor fell apart when trying to remove it which is likely the culprit.

Which leads me to my questions.

* Can I wire tone to the vol directly without the resistor?

* If not, what ...

I just bought an all natural 1979 Peavey T-40. ($279 Canadian!)

The switches do not appear to be original and the soldering is very sloppy. Currently the pickup selector cannot solo the bridge pickup. It has a tall, flat chrome lever (bent) and the phase switch has a round black plastic cover on the lever. I've seen various types in photos on the net. Can anybody tell me what the original 1979 switch levers looked like?

Another thing is the cavities. This bass has thick aluminum foil ...

I am a proud new owner of a Red T40. will post photos later.

I just had some questions about finding the right sound with this bass. when playing it for the first time today (through a Traynor YBA 200 tube head, with a single 15" cab).

when playing i found that there seemed to be some clipping when i played the strings harder (playing fast punk music). the lighter i played the strings the better it sounded (less crappy speaker clip) all the knobs on the bass were turned to full.

I almost always use the humbucker mode, but when I go into single coil mode with both pickups on, I get a considerable amount of hum, even when the volumes are set the same.

This would seem to indicate that the same coils on the pickups are tapped for single coil mode.

A few questions...

-Why would Peavey do this, instead of using opposite coils so that the two single coils would be hum canceling?

-Mine is a 1979. Do those of you with later models have the same issue?

Just got me an woody T-40, never knew about them before, and it starts with 8M!!! -its a 1978-model ! So, i'm happy, and want to restore it a bit.

1. Its probably not working on the bridge mic, because when i use the front switch it has the same sound on level 1 and 2,and no sound on level 3. Pots are good...

2. but the rear switch is broken off.

- So can anyone help me with why the mic does not work?

-and is the broken switch nothing to bother about?

God bless everyone!
